Tiingo’s Financial News API goes beyond traditional news sources as we focus on finding rich content written by knowledgeable writers for their audiences. This means we scan unstructured, non-traditional news and other information sources while using our proprietary algorithms, to tag companies, topics, and assets. This refined system is backed by over ten years of research and development and is written by former profitable institutional quant traders. Because of this dedicated approach, Tiingo’s News API is a trusted tool used by quant funds, hedge funds, pension funds, social media companies, and tech companies.

In order for our news feeds to discover and structure nontraditional forms of content, Tiingo’s self-learning algorithms determine different ways that multiple assets and companies and their intellectual property are mentioned in the media and by individuals. Because publications typically speak to a particular audience, Tiingo’s News API does not rely on ticker-based identification. Instead, it tags based on slang, company mentions, and/or relevant product mentions, which produces a richer feed that helps users discover new sources of alpha, perform due diligence, and distill the sentiment from a wide variety of content. Our feed structures data across Equities, ETFs, Mutual Funds, F/X pairs, and Crypto pairs.
For our institutional clients, our real-time news API comes with historical data stretching from the 1990s with a one-year commitment. This means you get access to over 50,000,000 articles and counting. And for our non-institutional clients, you get the past 3 months of data with real-time updates so you can keep an extensive database internally. With around 700,000+ articles added a month, this means you will have the data you need to power your systems.
Ensuring quality news sources is paramount when trying to obtain sentiment and insight into companies or their products. Because we understand that quality analysis requires quality data, Tiingo’s News API focuses on quality first, incorporating new sources and perspectives that add meaningful content to our feed, as well as a diversity of opinions. When our feeds encounter new publications, we manually inspect and review the news source to ensure it matches our standards of quality. If it makes the cut, the news source is immediately incorporated into the feed, and the history of the publication is expanded. And while in some instances we do allow robowritten news sources, it is only if they provide a predictable stream that allows easy extraction of data points.
Tiingo’s News API is designed to support all traders in maintaining as little bias as possible in their research. For our enterprise clients, we ensure that any algorithm changes are forked so that when a new algorithm change is made, the client can choose to migrate to the new change or stay with the current version. This means models trained on our data stay consistent, predictable, and in your control even as we make regular improvements and expand our database.
